## Before you begin

Make sure you have:

- [COS Explorer credentials](docId\:JwSEUG3ELF_gXLhy6T9KI)

## Process overview

Apply restrictions to the activities an account or subaccount can do, such as:

- Block an account from transaction using a specific rail or rails (for example, via ACH)
- Define a maximum amount for transactions
- Limit an account to only debit or credit activities
- Apply the restrictions for a specific time period

## Restrict an account

Navigate to **Deposit Accounts** under **Core**.

::::WorkflowBlock
:::WorkflowBlockItem
[Find](docId\:T26_viv_qnTdGFCjD5sNl) the account you want to restrict.
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
On the **Deposit Account Details** screen, scroll down to the pane that offers various account activities on its tabs.
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
Click **Restrictions**. You now see a list of any already-applied restrictions on the account.
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
To add a restriction, click the 3-dots menu and select **Add Restrictions**.
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
In the pop-up window, define the restrictions you want for this account.

1. You *must* add a **Reason** for the restriction.
2. In the **Applies to** field, choose from:

- **All**. Restricts the master account and all subledgers under that master account.
- **Account**. Restricts only the master account, but not any subledgers under it.
- **Sub Accounts**. Restricts all the subledgers under the master account, but not the master account itself.

3. Do not use the **Other Account** field.
4. Define all the actual restrictions as guided in the pop-up window.
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
Click **Submit**. The new restriction appears in the list.
:::
