## Before you begin

Make sure you have:

- [COS Explorer credentials](docId\:JwSEUG3ELF_gXLhy6T9KI) 

## Process overview

Close a subledger account under a master account for an individual or business. Note that the balance of the account must be 0 to close it.

You cannot close an implicit subledger (has the same account number as the master account).

## Close a subledger account

[Find](docId\:q1g1E7Sq9z6lUmO-fPDGc) the specific subledger you want to close.
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
On the Sub Ledger Details screen, scroll down to the **Account Activity** tab and verify that the current balance of the subledger is $0.00.

Under **Sub Ledger Tasks**, click **Close Account**.
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
In the window that appears, you can add a note explaining why you are closing the account.

You can add an internal note (for Cross River only), a note for the partner, or both. Select **Same as Internal Note** to apply the same note to both internal and partner.

Click **Submit**. The status of the subledger becomes **Closed**.
