## Wires – Frequently Asked Questions

This section answers common questions about sending and receiving wires through Cross River, routing details, cutoff times, internal transfers, error handling, and compliance checks.

**What are wire transfers?**
[Wire](docId\:hFNmQa22W2BNqAJijpAVT) transfers let you send or receive domestic and international payments via Fedwire®. Funds usually post the same day and are trackable with an IMAD number.

**How are international wires handled?**
Cross River uses a [domestic](docId\:sFG6D6itNK09yfROB6oCN) intermediary bank for USD international wires. Contact the beneficiary bank for proper instructions.

**What wire services are supported?**
Outbound wires, inbound wires, drawdown requests/responses, and full Fedwire® support.

**How do outbound and inbound wires work?**

- [Outbound](docId\:r5Em5zsqCEnn70GiAiwsT)**:** Funds post to your account, pass OFAC checks, enter a Fed batch, and trigger a webhook once completed.
- [Inbound](docId\:r5Em5zsqCEnn70GiAiwsT)**:** Funds post to your account; successful postings trigger a webhook; failed postings return to the originator.

**What types of wire messages exist?**
Transfers (domestic/international), service messages (informational), and reversals.

**Are wires verified or authorized?**
Yes. Certain amounts or origination methods require approval via COS Explorer with 1–2 approvers; not available via API.

**When are wires processed and funds available?**
[Processing](docId\:JoJixVBqs49cuWK3UVJ5m) occurs Mon–Fri, 9:00 PM (previous day) – 7:00 PM ET. Funds post upon completion; holds after 3:00 PM ET may release next business day.

**Why might a wire be on hold?**
[Holds](docId\:eqf1PFq31_W9BcmfO73z3) can occur due to OFAC matches, beneficiary mismatches, duplicates, international indicators, insufficient funds, callbacks, or missing Travel Rule info.

**How can I track a wire?**
Use the Fedwire® IMAD number and webhook events for real-time updates.

**Why was my wire held for missing originator information?**

The Bank Secrecy Act Travel Rule requires information identifying the sender to travel with the payment on transfers **of $3,000 or more**. Best practice is to always supply the originator's name, a complete address and the account number, even though the schema lists them as optional. See [Wire holds - Travel Rule](docId\:eqf1PFq31_W9BcmfO73z3).
