## Outbound and inbound ACH payments

ACH allows you to transfer funds electronically and cost-efficiently through the Federal Reserve ACH network. Cross River offers both outbound and inbound ACH payments, enabling you to both originate and receive ACH payments. Cross River supports both [Same Day](docId:0papBZYBjF0LZPac8-tRW) and [Next Day (standard)](docId:0papBZYBjF0LZPac8-tRW) ACH settlement.

## Outbound ACH payment

An Outbound ACH payment either pushes funds to or pulls funds from an account at an external bank. An *Outbound Push* sends funds to the recipient's account and this is a credit to the receiver. An *Outbound Pull* submits a request to pull funds from an external account to the account at Cross River and this is a debit for the originator.

The following diagram shows the [outbound flows](docId\:ILwmF5qnTMLo30D2H3rCH) and [webhook events](docId\:AVRvavzdk7hC0UfXn6XZ9) for ACH transactions.

Note that if the `postingType` of the transaction is **individual**, the `Core.Transaction.Completed` webhook is triggered when the activity is posted for an individual payment (at the end of the flow). For the **aggregate** `postingType`, the `Core.Transaction.Completed` webhook is triggered *for an outbound push payment *when the distribution is created to be sent to the Fed. See the notes inside the image.

## Inbound ACH payment

An Inbound ACH payment involves receipt (push) to or authorized withdrawal (pull) from an account at Cross River. An *Inbound push* involves a customer at an external bank sending payment to an account at Cross River and this is a credit for the receiver. An *Inbound pull* involves a customer at an external bank pulling money from an account at Cross River and is a debit to the originator.
